NEW YORK, NY -- Jewelry is on many people's wish lists when it comes to gifts, but the question is what to buy. A study, conducted by Jewelers of America (JA), can help steer you in the right direction.
What piece of jewelry do women love the most? According to the survey, rings (other than engagement and wedding rings) came out on top followed by necklaces and wedding rings. Men, on a more practical side, favor watches.
Diamonds are still a girl's best friend and were the overwhelming favorite gemstone of 61 percent of those surveyed. Emerald was the favorite of 10 percent of the women polled while 9 percent loved sapphire the best.
The gift of gold jewelry is sure to please that special person in your life. Gold was the overwhelming favorite metal of a full 89 percent of those surveyed. Sterling silver, popular with today's younger jewelry buyers, was preferred by 8 percent, and 3 percent had a strong preference for platinum.
JA suggests visiting the nearest JA jeweler in your area. Look for the jewelry store with the gold "J" in the window, the mark of a professional jeweler, when you buy fine jewelry and shop with confidence. Or, use the search engine on this web site. You can search in one of several ways: state, area code, or zip code.
